Up to the Big Apple: Gaels head to NYC for Super 11s

Writer's picture: DC GaelsDC Gaels

As teams from Tipperary, Kilkenny, Wexford, and Limerick flew from Ireland to New York City, a group from the DC Gaels made their own trip up from the nation’s capital. Despite the cold, the Super 11s tournament proved great entertainment on the weekend, with New York native TJ O’Leary offering at least a few useful tidbits of regional knowledge.

The tournament has been held stateside since 2015, with the first three instances being held in Boston (they gave it a miss in 2016 for some reason). This year’s tourney saw some fairly lopsided contests in the qualifiers, with Limerick beating Wexford 52-20 and Kilkenny dealing out a savage 86-36 defeat to Tipperary in what must have somewhat satisfying after their loss in the All-Ireland Final a few months before. The final was a little closer, but Kilkenny still came out with a convincing 64-40 win against the Shannonsiders.
